The Seattle-Kobe Sister City Association invites you to attend a special opportunity to celebrate the work of Qwalsius-Shaun Peterson and the story pole he carved that was recently installed in our sister city and sister port of Kobe, Japan. Learn about the original pole carved by Lummi Nation carver Joseph Hillaire, and the journey to create the new piece of art in Kobe honoring the connection between the people of our two cities.

This event will feature a moderated conversation with Coast Salish Artist Qwalisius-Shaun Peterson, and Lummi Nation glass artist Dan Friday (kwul-kwul-tw), great grandson of Joseph Hillaire, speaking about the meaningful connections through these story poles for our region.
